Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Anthropology, Linguistic Anthropology

Ciao! 你好! Bonjour! Hallo! Those are pretty much all the cool ways I know how to greet you all for now, but unless you haven't gotten the message, this first post is for me to say 'hello!' to you all. First things first, I'll introduce myself: my name is Cecilia Caligiuri. I am a current freshman at The Pingry School where I love to swim, play water polo, and dabble a little at the flute, but most importantly, I'm a big fan of science. Chemistry, biology, anatomy, you name it. At the same time, I also love learning about different peoples and their cultures which makes language and history courses all the more interesting. This is why I've become so passionate about anthropology, which I know seems like a long and maybe intimidating term at first, but really is just the fancy word for the study of the origin and development of humans and their societies.

(That's me up there giving you all a virtual hug :)

That's right, anthropology is not paleontology (aka digging up dinosaur bones)! Rather, anthropology is a pretty extensive field of study broken down into four main subfields: archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. In this blog, I'll be sharing my discoveries, thoughts, and experiences as I begin studying this great and vast discipline! Just between you and me, my personal favorite subfield is biological anthropology because it's a lot more science-y than the others, but don't worry, I'll make sure to include some content on the other subfields for you all as well.

So, whether you're an avid anthropologist scholar, an amateur anthropologist like me, or are simply curious to learn more about a study that's about you, me, and the rest of the humans on this globe, Bits of Anthro Today is the place for you! I plan to post weekly updates for you all to see what I'm up to, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on my posts or what you'd like me to post about regarding anthropology through the comments. Join me as I venture on my journey of studying anthropology, I promise it'll be fun ;)
